2nd International Forum ‘CULTURE AS A FACTOR OF GROWTH’, St. Petersburg, Russia

On 17th December 2015, Saint Petersburg will be hosting the 2nd International Forum in the framework of the Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture (NDPC) ‘CULTURE AS A FACTOR OF GROWTH’

Forum is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The event will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the North-West Federal regions of Russia, experts in the field of creative industries and cultural tourism of the Northern Dimension.

2016 is the year of the Russian Federation Presidency of the NDPC, which is an important inter-regional platform for international and interregional cooperation in the field of culture among the "Northern Dimension" Member States. The main objective of the NDPC is mutually beneficial cooperation of the participating countries in the economic and social spheres to achieve sustainable development in Northern Europe.

4th Call for the Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme

The Fourth Call for the Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme 2014-2020 will be open from 1st May to 30th September 2016

The call is open for all 4 Priority Axes:

  1. Using Innovation to Maintain And Develop Robust And Competitive Communities
  2. Promoting Entrepreneurship to Realise the Potential of the Programme Area’s Competitive Advantage
  3. Fostering Energy-Secure Communities through Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
  4. Protecting, Promoting and Developing Cultural and Natural Heritage

A Briefing Note "Culture in EU development policies and external action" published

A Joint Communication by the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Commission titled “Towards an EU Strategy for international cultural relations” was published on 8 June 2016 and will be discussed by the Council of the EU in autumn 2016.

AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award in Cultural Value

Artist-led contributions to the cultural value agenda: developing theory, methods and policy insight

The Centre for Cultural Policy Studies at the University of Warwick and a-n The Artists Information Company are pleased to invite applications from outstanding candidates for an AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award PhD studentship to commence October 2014 working on a project entitled ‘Artist-led contributions to the cultural value agenda: developing theory, methods and policy insight’.

The PhD will be supervised by Dr Eleonora Belfiore of Warwick University with Susan Jones, Director of a-n, as the designated non-HE supervisor.

This studentship will cover full-time University tuition fees and include an annual tax free stipend at standard AHRC rates (currently £13,726 a year). In addition, a-n will provide up to £1,000 pa to cover travel and research expenses to a total of £3000 over the studentship and up to £5000 towards fees to cover self-employed artists’ loss of earnings to contribute to research focus groups or interviews.

Deadline for applications: 25 June 2014.

Interviews will be held at Warwick University on 8 July 2014.

Arctic Design Week Open Call

Arctic Design Week is the world’s northernmost design week. Theme for the week is Arctic Transition - how we improve living and business, and how prepare for change in the Arctic. The intention of the week is to bring together creative Arctic know-how, help companies to understand the value of design in business and to enhance living in the Arctic sustainably using design. Arctic Design Week is a platform to tell stories, introduce Arctic know-how and create and try out new concepts.

The recent study: Boosting the competitiveness of cultural and creative industries for jobs and growth shows that Cultural and creative industries (CCIs) employ more than 12 million people in the EU, which is 7.5% of all persons employed in the total economy.

Bridging firms, policies and academia for the benefit of the Northern Dimension

The Northern Dimension (ND) is a mosaic of diverse histories, traditions, strengths and challenges. ND area has a lot to gain from taking advantage of the diverse capacities within the region. Furthermore, in times of geopolitical tensions, economic problems and social challenges, joining forces for the joint benefit is increasingly pivotal. We have a lot to gain from tackling common problems and pinning down the potential of freely flowing people, goods and ideas.

Call for proposals: strategy for the international branding and positioning of the Nordic Region

To implement the strategy for the international branding and positioning of the Nordic Region, internal and external stakeholders in Nordic co-operation are invited to apply for funding for Nordic projects and partnerships that seek to strengthen the Nordic brand internationally.

The Secretariat to the Nordic Council of Ministers was tasked by the Ministers for Nordic Co-operation with developing a strategy for the international branding and positioning of the Nordic Region (branding project). As part of the implementation of this strategy, both internal and external stakeholders in Nordic co-operation are now invited to apply for funding for Nordic projects and partnerships that seek to strengthen the Nordic brand internationally.
