The seventh Northern Dimension Forum focused on discussing the challenges and business opportunities in the Arctic region. The need for international cooperation and sustainable development in the Arctic was highlighted throughout the discussions. The ND Forum – organized by the Northern Dimension Business Council (NDBC) and the Association of European Businesses (AEB) – was held on 7 April 2016 in St. Petersburg with over 200 delegates attending the event.

On 28 April 2016, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being (NDPHS) will hold a conference supporting the policy-to-project-to-policy cycle. The event aims to bring together political decision makers and regional stakeholders active in the field of health to discuss project activities necessary to achieve regionally agreed policy goals and means to ensure that suitable project results are transferred to the policy level. The conference is targeted at institutions/organizations with knowledge and expertise in the project area, which have capacity and interest to contribute to the achievement of priorities laid out in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). Thanks to the kind support of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme’s Joint Secretariat, participants will be given the opportunity to receive feedback and guidance on project ideas during bilateral consultations.
A roundtable discussion within the frames of the Northern Dimension Partnership on Transport and Logistics (NDPTL) project "Elimination of obstacles for Intermodal transportation in transit through Poland, Lithuania and Belarus" took place in Helsinki, Finland, on 26 April 2016.
The aim of the roundtable was to discuss opportunities and potential with Finnish industry and trade organisations for door-to-door or terminal-to-terminal intermodal services between Finland and mainland Europe.

Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NArFU) hosted a meeting of the BEAC Joint Working Group on Education and Research (JWGER) in April 2016. The group unites 15 universities and research institutions from the northern territories of Russia, Norway, Finland and Sweden, aimed at solving crucial problems of scientific and educational cooperation expansion in the Barents Region. NArFU has been co-chairing the group since 2011.
The meeting's agenda included an overview of universities' international activities, presentation of JWGER group's work results in 2016, and discussion of the Barents universities’ role in the implementation of the Russian BEAC Chairmanship objectives.
In addition, it was decided to prolong NArFU’s chairmanship for the next two years. Marina Kalinina, Rector’s Adviser on International Cooperation, shall continue her work as the JWGER Chair.
The second Northern Dimension Day will be held back-to-back with the 7th Strategy Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR), scheduled for November 8th-9th, 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Welcome to hear about concrete success stories and lessons learned in the Northern Dimension. We are showcasing successful projects and activities from the fields of the Northern Dimension Partnerships: Environment, Culture, Transport and Logistics, and Health and Social-wellbeing. The focus is on concrete actions: what was done, how it was done, what made it succeed, what were the challenges or needs faced, and what were the lessons learned.
The 7th Northern Dimension Forum will take place on 7th April 2016 in St Petersburg. This year’s Forum focuses on discussing business opportunities and challenges in the Arctic. The keynote speeches address Arctic economic growth, sustainable development in the Arctic and investment incentives for foreign and Russian companies in North-West Russia. The speakers include representatives of ND member states and top-level Russian and European businesses, including the Arctic Economic Council. The event is organized by the Northern Dimension Business Council in cooperation with the Association of European Businesses. The Forum is expected to attract more than 250 participants representing Russian and European key actors in the Northern Dimension area.
The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has commissioned the Northern Dimension Institute to co-organize an information and discussion event in Brussels to promote the role and importance of the Northern Dimension for European wellbeing and prosperity. The high-level event is targeted to the decision-makers in the EU and its member states, as well as in the other ND partner countries.
The event will highlight the relevancy of the Northern Dimension policy and its instruments for regional and cross-border cooperation that aims at finding solutions to common challenges. The event will demonstrate several success stories of the ND policy, such as joint environmental projects on waste-water treatment and energy efficiency, and cross-border exchange of information and best practices on healthcare and disease prevention.
The event is foreseen to take place in Brussels in autumn 2020. Would this not be feasible, the event will be organized as a web seminar.
