The 9th Baltic Sea Region Forum 2016 in Turku, Finland

The 9th Baltic Sea Region Forum 2016 will be organized on 20 May in Turku, Finland under the theme "Maritime cluster in the Baltic Sea region and beyond". The focus of the Forum will be on transport, shipbuilding and maritime cluster. The keynote speech will be delivered by the former President of Finland, Tarja Halonen.

Interreg Baltic Sea Region Consultation Days, Berlin, Germany

Interreg Baltic Sea Region invites you to a project idea consultation during the Consultation Days on 12 and 13 April 2016 in Berlin, Germany. You will have the opportunity to consult your project idea in person with Managing Authority/Joint Secretariat officers. The consultations are offered on 12 April between 13.00 – 17.45 hours and on 13 April between 9.00 - 16.15 hours. 

The Consultation Days addresses project developers who plan to apply for the Programme funds in the 2nd call and have already a project idea. The consultation slot is 45 minutes.

The registration  will be closed when the maximum number is reached or latest on 7 April 2016.

How to facilitate the integration of creative and cultural industries and tourism?

The development of creative and cultural industries (CCI) and cultural tourism has been identified as the strategic focus of the Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture (NDPC). This includes also the facilitation of cross-sectorial spill-overs and innovation in CCI, as well as usage of CCI innovation in furthering tourism.  In order to build up the knowledge base on the prevailing situation and support the future developments, the NDPC has commissioned a study on the topic. The study will be carried out with an aim to learn more about developments in CCI and its cross-sector spillovers with tourism, taking into account innovative case studies and best practices, as well as policy developments. The information will be utilized to develop recommendations for effective and sustainable integration of CCI and tourism sector. The study is carried out by PROMAN – a leading international consulting company specialised in development cooperation – with the funding from the European Commission.

NDPHS looking for stakeholders to take part in its policy-to-project-to-policy conference

On 28 April 2016, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being (NDPHS) will hold a conference supporting the policy-to-project-to-policy cycle. The event aims to bring together political decision makers and regional stakeholders active in the field of health to discuss project activities necessary to achieve regionally agreed policy goals and means to ensure that suitable project results are transferred to the policy level. The conference is targeted at institutions/organizations with knowledge and expertise in the project area, which have capacity and interest to contribute to the achievement of priorities laid out in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). Thanks to the kind support of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme’s Joint Secretariat, participants will be given the opportunity to receive feedback and guidance on project ideas during bilateral consultations.

Northern Dimension Forum focusing on business in the Arctic

The 7th Northern Dimension Forum will take place on 7th April 2016 in St Petersburg. This year’s Forum focuses on discussing business opportunities and challenges in the Arctic. The keynote speeches address Arctic economic growth, sustainable development in the Arctic and investment incentives for foreign and Russian companies in North-West Russia. The speakers include representatives of ND member states and top-level Russian and European businesses, including the Arctic Economic Council. The event is organized by the Northern Dimension Business Council in cooperation with the Association of European Businesses. The Forum is expected to attract more than 250 participants representing Russian and European key actors in the Northern Dimension area.

Success Cases, Challenges and Lessons Learned in the Northern Dimension

The First Northern Dimension Day took place in Brussels Résidence Palace on 9 December 2015. Over 50 interested from the European Commission, European Parliament and other stakeholders from the EU and the Northern Dimension area were present at the event, organized with the intention of spreading knowledge of the Northern Dimension (ND) policy and the ND partnerships.

 

Call for Abstracts to UArctic Congress 2016 Science Section is open

The University of the Arctic welcomes scientific abstracts for the first ever UArctic Congress. The Call for Abstracts is open until March 31, 2016.
 

Hosted by Saint Petersburg State University, the Science Section of the UArctic Congress will take place in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in September 13-16.

Abstracts for sessions under the following themes are invited:

  • Vulnerability of Arctic Environments
  • Vulnerability of Arctic Societies
  • Local and Traditional Knowledge
  • Building Long-Term Human Capacity
  • New Markets for the Arctic, Including Trade, Tourism and Transportation

The NDPHS held a ministerial-level conference

Berlin, Germany – 20th of November 2015, Ms. Annette Widmann-Mauz, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Health, hosted and chaired the 11th annual conference of the Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being, NDPHS. The event was attended by ministers responsible for health and social affairs and other high representatives of countries and organisations being members of the NDPHS.

Since the main social well-being and health related challenges faced by the Partner Countries are the same and given the multitude and character of these challenges, profound regional cooperation and regional engagement are essential for both an effective response to the challenges as well as ensuring long-term stability and economic development of the countries and the region as a whole – was one of the conclusions of the event.

The Northern Dimension: Synergism of logistics strategies

Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics (UNECON) is glad to invite you to take part in international scientific conference "The Northern Dimension: Synergism of logistics strategies". The conference will be held on 10-11th of December, 2015 in UNECON (30/32 Griboedova Canal).

The conference will address the matters, related to cooperation between Russian (including North-Western region) and Northern and Baltic Sea States scientific and business communities' representatives in development of effective logistics strategies. Arctic Floating University - 2016

Northern (Arctic) Federal University in cooperation with Northern Branch of Russian Federation Agency for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (ROSHYDROMET) organize the marine research and education expedition «Arctic Floating University – 2016».

2nd International Forum ‘CULTURE AS A FACTOR OF GROWTH’, St. Petersburg, Russia

On 17th December 2015, Saint Petersburg will be hosting the 2nd International Forum in the framework of the Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture (NDPC) ‘CULTURE AS A FACTOR OF GROWTH’

Forum is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The event will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the North-West Federal regions of Russia, experts in the field of creative industries and cultural tourism of the Northern Dimension.

2016 is the year of the Russian Federation Presidency of the NDPC, which is an important inter-regional platform for international and interregional cooperation in the field of culture among the "Northern Dimension" Member States. The main objective of the NDPC is mutually beneficial cooperation of the participating countries in the economic and social spheres to achieve sustainable development in Northern Europe.

First edition of Creative Entrepreneurship Academy 2016

Creativity Lab together with Nordic Council of Ministers, Estonian Business School and Creative Business Cup are organising the Creative Entrepreneurhip Academy (CEA) in January 18-22, 2016 in Tallinn (Estonia) and Helsinki (Finland). The 5-days training programme includes interactive sessions and practical workshops, field trips and internationally renowned speakers.

The session is desighned for representatives of organisations and authorities that are responsible of creating strong creative ecosystem for talents and businesses to grow.

Culture as a Factor of Growth

International Forum within the framework of Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture (NDPC) CULTURE AS A FACTOR OF GROWTHwas held in St. Petersburg, December 7–9, 2014.

More than 160 participants representing various fields took part in the forum held at the St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts to get informed of the initiatives within the cultural and creative industries (CCI) in the Northern Dimension area. The array of participating organizations was prominent including cultural and foreign ministries, universities, cultural and research institutes, companies and intermediaries in cultural and creative industries, museums, tourism industry, and NGOs from the ND area.

EUSBSR Priority Area Culture Conference “Learning from the past - Looking into the future” in Tallinn on 13-14 November 2014.

The conference in Tallinn will constitute an occasion to introduce the first results of PA Culture flagship projects, its actions and achievements regarding improved cultural cooperation within the Baltic Sea Region.
