Daugavpils University was founded in 1921 and today is the biggest regional state university and the only university in Eastern-Latvia. DU offers to achieve knowledge in 5 faculties and 51 study programmes. Main research disciplines of DU scientists are Literary Science, Linguistics, History, Biology, Environmental sciences, Physics, Economy, Sociology, Psychology, Education and Art.
Knowledge-based society is forming Latvia’s and Daugavpils socioeconomic environment and University must be core promoter of the development, because each of the academic staff and student must be keen for new knowledge, work hard to research and discover and actively pass on the acquired cognitions and results to society in general. For this reason DU motto is Scientia Vinces that means “Through knowledge you win”. And our main goal – to become a modern scientific University, which educates not only students but society in general!
