Arseniev “PROBLEMS IN ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY AND SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT STATISTICS”

The aim of the conference is to involve a wide range of experts from Russia and abroad in discussing the issues of regional and local socio-economic development, modern economic geography and spatial planning, improvement and promotion of regional and municipal statistics.

Background. The conference is biennial, honouring the memory of a prominent Russian economic geographer, statistician, and enthusiastic educationalist K. Arseniev (1789-1865). His versatile scientific activities and love to the City of Petrozavodsk and Karelia became a motivation for establishing a conference in memory of his scientific and public work and in recognition of his contribution to Russian and world science. The conference has been held in Petrozavodsk since 1995.
Conference participants. Scientists, specialists, professors and lecturers, legislators and administrators, NGOs, PhD students are invited to take part in the conference.

Main conference themes:
– Economic geography issues related to administrative arrangement and its enhancement, economic zoning, spatial planning, and spatial arrangement of production facilities.
– Spatial development statistics issues related to developments in statistical accounting, compatibility of statistical standards, development of regional statistics and establishment of municipal statistics.

Proposals for authorities on improving spatial planning, administrative arrangements, and spatial development statistics shall be prepared on the basis of the conference discussions. The most interesting papers will be published in the Scientific Journal “Transactions of the Karelian Research Centre RAS” (Region: Economics and Management Series), as well as in other editions and digital resources of the conference information partners.

The conference fee is RUR 1000. The fee includes the information package, cultural program, meals, other organizing costs. We shall inform you of the forms and timing of the payment later (not later than 30.06.2014).

To be admitted to the conference submit the application form as described below to the Institute of Economics at KarRC of RAS before August 1, 2014, and send full paper before the end of September 2014.

The Organizing Committee is entitled to selecting papers to be presented at the conference. The conference shall comprise two sessions with selected oral presentations, and the rest of the papers shall be in poster format, posted on the Institute of Economic Studies website.
